-The Spirit Given Because Christ Was Glorified

The Holy Spirit could not be poured out until the work of redemption was finished. The river could not flow until the rock was struck. This is not a minor theological detail -- it is the heartbeat of the gospel. The indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer is a purchased gift, bought by the blood of Jesus Christ. You did not earn the Spirit through good behavior. You received the Spirit because Christ was glorified. Every moment the Spirit works within you is a reminder that the cross accomplished something you never could have accomplished for yourself.
