-The Great I Am
Reading: Exodus 3:13-14; John 8:24-28; Colossians 2:9
Devotional: When Jesus declared I am he, he was not simply claiming to be the Messiah. He was claiming to be Yahweh, the eternal, self-existent God who spoke to Moses from the burning bush. This is the cornerstone of the Christian faith. A mere moral teacher cannot bear the infinite wrath of God on behalf of sinners. A good example cannot atone for cosmic treason. Only the eternal Son of God, who possesses infinite worth and infinite righteousness, could satisfy divine justice. The Jesus of Scripture demands total allegiance because he is Lord above all. No other Jesus can save.
Reflection: Have you fashioned a Jesus who is comfortable with your sin, or do you bow before the Lord of glory?
