-The God Who Came Near

Reading: John 1:14; Isaiah 9:2; Exodus 13:21-22

The pillar of fire that guided Israel through the wilderness was not the destination.

It was a promise written in flame, pointing forward to the one who would come and dwell among his people in flesh and blood. Every lamp lit during the Feast of Tabernacles was a reminder of that guidance, and every reminder was a shadow of Christ.

God did not shout instructions down from a safe distance.

He entered the darkness, born in a stable, walking among sinners.

The same God who led Israel through the desert now leads his people through life itself.
