-Impressed but Unchanged -- The Danger of Near Conversion

Reading: James 1:22-25

The temple officers who heard Jesus speak were undone by his words. They returned to their superiors and declared that no man had ever spoken the way this man spoke. They recognized something extraordinary. They felt the weight of his authority. And yet they walked away unchanged. James warns that hearing the word without responding to it is a form of self-deception.

It is possible to sit under powerful preaching, to feel genuine conviction, to admire the person and teaching of Jesus Christ, and still never drink.

Admiration is not faith.
Impression is not salvation.

True hearing always produces a response.

Reflection: Have you ever felt the weight of the gospel without fully surrendering to it?

Practical Application: Take time today to honestly assess whether your response to God's word has been one of hearing only or of genuine, obedient faith. If you have been lingering near the door, step through it today.
