- Life in Himself

Reading: John 5:19-27

Only God possesses life that is underived, self-existent, and self-sustaining.
Every breath you take exists because the Father sustains all creation. Yet remarkably, the Father eternally grants the Son this same quality—life in himself.

This is not a transfer that began in time but an everlasting reality within the Godhead. Because the Son has life in himself, He can both give life and pronounce final judgment.

The mouth that speaks salvation will one day speak the final verdict.

This dual authority should inspire both hope and holy reverence. Jesus is not a vending machine of grace but a sovereign King who bestows life where He pleases—and His pleasure rests on those who believe.

Reflection: How does understanding Christ's self-existent life deepen your gratitude for salvation?
