-The Urgency of the Open Door

Reading: John 7:33-34, 2 Corinthians 6:1-2, Hebrews 3:7-8

John 7:33-34 records Jesus warning that he would be with them only a little while longer, and that they would seek him and not find him, and where he was going they could not come.

2 Corinthians 6:1-2 urges believers not to receive the grace of God in vain, declaring that now is the acceptable time and now is the day of salvation.

Hebrews 3:7-8 quotes the Holy Spirit's warning not to harden your heart, but to hear his voice today.

Jesus issued one of the most sobering warnings in all of Scripture when he told the people of Jerusalem that a day was coming when they would seek him and not find him. The door of grace does not remain open indefinitely. There is an appointed time for repentance, and that time is now. The sermon called on every person to repent and believe the gospel while the door stands wide open. Do not reduce this invitation to something you will consider later. Do not assume that your religious history guarantees your standing before God. Run to Christ. Cast yourself entirely on his mercy. He is the only one worthy, and he is sufficient for every sin you carry.

Reflection Question: Is there anything you are holding onto that is keeping you from fully surrendering to Christ today?

Practical Application: If you have never repented of your sin and placed your faith in Jesus Christ alone for salvation, do not leave this reading plan without doing so. If you are a believer, identify one person in your life who needs to hear the gospel and commit to sharing it with them this week.
